Skin Care Advice for the Confused and Skeptical
Everything You Need to Know to Navigate the Confusing World of Cosmetic Skin Care
and Help You Decide What's Right for Your Skin
The skin care industry is undergoing an unprecedented explosion. New cosmetic skin treatments are being developed at an astonishing rate. This rapid growth is being driven by the baby-boomers (like me). The boomers are the most powerful consumer group in history. And they are determined to be the first generation not to grow old, or at least to look good and feel good as they do!
This skin care industry bombards you with advertisements for laser treatments, microdermabrasion, peels, Botox, filler injections, make-up, skin care products, anti-aging products, and thousands of other "answers". Confused? Overwhelmed?
So are my patients when they first come to see me. That's why I created this site. The industry needs a voice of reason. It needs someone to cut through the hype and sales pitches to give you the straight goods.
The media shows us ads featuring young models with perfect skin and perfect figures, implying that you can achieve such perfection. These ads promise miraculous results, and many of them seem unbelievable.
You have good reason to be skeptical. Some skin care products and cosmetic skin treatments work. Many don't.
How do you decide which is which? What's right for you?
One way to get unbiased feedback is to know someone who has undergone a specific treatment or used a specific product.
But the skin care treatment or product that worked for your friend may not be appropriate for you and your skin.
So what's the solution? Well, this website can help. I've tried to make it a one-stop resource for unbiased research and advice on the latest in cosmetic skin care.
As a physician with an overbooked cosmetic treatment practice (I'm not trying to sell you anything!), I started this site for two reasons:
1) to clear the fog of confusion and skepticism.
2) to help you find the best skin care product or skin treatment for YOU.
I provide you with unbiased information so that you can...
- understand the nature of the treatments and products that are available
- become an educated cosmetic skin care consumer
- learn what questions to ask physicians and estheticians when you go in for a consultation
- Make your buying decisions with more confidence
How Will This Site Help YOU?
This site is the only guide to cosmetic skin care you need. I've seen and treated it all. I don't use what doesn't work, even if patients come in demanding something because "I saw it on TV."
This site does not...
- sell anything
- contain any hype
- cover surgical procedures
- discuss general dermatology problems such as eczema, acne, and psoriasis
All treatments or products discussed on this site must meet the following criteria...
- They must work! (the #1 Rule For This Site) Questionable treatments and products? You won't find them here.
If the treatment or product is covered here, you can be confident that it has shown good results. (Please note that, if a treatment or product is not covered here, it doesn't necessarily mean that it doesn't work. It simply means that I don't use it in my practice. This might be because I have assessed it and rejected it, or it might mean that I haven't gotten around to considering it, or it might mean that I've never heard of it. If I have stopped using a product or device after I have written about it on this site, I will let you know.)
- They must be treatments that do not require general anesthetics.
- They must involve minimal or no downtime.
- They must be minimally invasive.
The site has three main sections:
The first covers the basics of skin structure and function.
The second section covers cosmetic problems and suggested solutions.
This is for people who aren't sure of the appropriate treatment for them.
The third section goes into treatments and products in greater detail.
The cosmetic skin care industry is changing rapidly. Stay up to date with frequent changes and additions to the site.
